ABSTRACT
Background: The article presents control strategy for the operation of the variable-speed wind energy conversion system with permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). The presented MPPT algorithm allows to achieve the operation at maximum value of power coefficient of the wind turbine in the wide range of wind speed variations. In the control of Grid Side Converter the method of Voltage Oriented Control (VOC) has been applied. Material and methods: For the considered wind speed variation the simulation studies of wind energy conversion system with control circuits have been developed. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm and Voltage Oriented Control (VOC) algorithm have been applied. Results: From the simulation results, it can be stated that the maximum power extraction control algorithm at the switch mode rectifier confirmed the operation of the MPPT algorithm. Simulation results also show that the condition for operation with unity power factor is fulfilled. Conclusions: The simulation results proved that the proposed control scheme of DC/DC converter and GSC have a good performance to obtain the maximum power from wind turbine and to obtain unit power factor, respectively.
